Abstract
The development of cities today leads to lost spaces due to the development process that treats buildings as isolated entities without connection to the streets and the surrounding environment. This is due to the need for more understanding of urban designers in linking the relationship between buildings, spaces, and human behavior in urban design. The term lost space can be described as urban spaces that do not positively impact the community and its environment, are formed unintentionally during the planning stage, are isolated from the leading road network, and are undesirable to users and the surrounding environment. This qualitative study investigates the revitalization of lost spaces through a literature review and case study involving user observations and interviews. The analysis of the case study data, combined with insights from the literature review, aims to identify the main factors contributing to the successful transformation of lost spaces into public spaces. The case study reveals a disparity between Flyover Slipi Skatepark, which needs more visitors despite adequate maintenance, and the Kemanggisan Flyover, which attracts many people despite insufficient care. This emphasizes the significance of accessibility and space programs in public spaces, highlighting the need to align with the surrounding context and involve the community in place-making to enhance visitor experiences.
