Abstract
The role of nc-TiN surface coverage by a-Si3N4 for the control of room temperature and in-dry-air oxidation resistance of nc-TiN/a-Si3N4/a- and nc-TiSi2 nanocomposites was discussed. It was found that the oxidation resistance decreases when the Si3N4 fraction decreases and that of TiSi2 increases. The results showed the high oxidation resistance can be achieved when the surface of TiN and TiSi2 nanocrystals are covered by approximately one monolayer of a-Si3N4 phase.
