Abstract

Bone pain is the most common type of cancer-related pain; it often occurs in cases of advanced cancer that have metastasized to bone, particularly prostate cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, and multiple myeloma. This type of pain is usually severe, persistent, and hard to manage. Current pain-relieving strategies include the use of strong opioids, bisphosphonates, and radiotherapy. However, these approaches may cause unwanted side effects that affect a patient’s quality of life. Acupuncture is an adjuvant therapy for pain relief; it has minimal side effects and may improve a patient’s quality of life. This paper discusses a 42-year-old female with cancer-induced bone pain who underwent 10 acupuncture treatments at the LI4 Hegu, SP6 Sanyinjiao, SP9 Yinlingquan, ST36 Zusanli, GB34 Yanglingquan, LR3 Taichong, BL23 Shenshu, and GB30 Huantiao acupoints and experienced improvement in pain.
