Abstract

Poor sleep quality may affect students' physical condition and their learning activities. Sleep hygiene is associated with sleep quality that influences their concentration and memory. This study aimed to identify the relationship between sleep quality and memory in undergraduate students of Universitas Indonesia. The study design was analytical with cross sectional approach which involved 450 undergraduate students by using cluster random sampling technique. The study instruments included Sleep Hygiene Index (SHI), The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Everyday Memory Questionnaire (EMQ). The study samples were selected from three different clusters with different characteristic of activities and sleep quality. University of Indonesia (UI) comprises of three clusters of science, namely Cluster of Health Sciences, Cluster of Science and Technology, and Cluster of Social and Humanity Sciences. Independent t-test result indicated that there was significant association between sleep hygiene, sleep quality and memory in students of Universitas Indonesia (p=0,001, p=0,008 α=0.05). The findings are expected to provide a solution for students to improve their sleep quality in order to maintain their physical, cognitive, and psychological health.
