THE MOTIVE OF THE PUPETEER IS TO CARRY OUT POLITICAL CAMPAIGN THROUGH PUPPET GOLEK SHOW

Abstract

The objective of this research to find out what motivations or
drives that make the puppeteer want to help stakeholders (political
parties, legislative candidates and the government) carry out
political campaigns through puppet golek show. Motives that
encourage someone to become a puppeteer are divided into two,
namely motives that refer to the future and motives that refer to the
past.
The approach of this research uses qualitative research
methods, with constructivist paradigms, and phenomenological
approaches. The research subjects were golek puppeteer who had
been trusted by political actors, political parties or government
institutions to help convey political messages through puppet golek
show. The subjects in this study were selected using the snowball
sampling technique. Data collection is obtained through in-depth
interviews, participant observation, and literature study.
The results revealed that the motives underlying the puppeteer
helped to carry out political campaigns through puppet golek show
divided into four motives namely (1) providing good direction for
the community, (2) developing traditional puppet arts so as not to
disappear, (3) wanting to promote or socializing political
messages to community, (4) socializing community message to the
government.
