Abstract

The trend towards the use of composites is currently increasing rapidly nowadays. Aluminium composites is one of the most popular material due to their good mechanical properties. This review paper reports the results from several studies on Nano alumina reinforced AC4B (Al-Si-Cu) aluminium through the casting process followed by heat treatment as an alternative material in any application. The manufactured composite treated by T6 treatment with 3 stages involve solution treatment, quenching and artificial aging to optimize its performance such as tensile strength, wear resistance, and hardness value. In order to investigate the effect of age hardening response, microstructural analysis was carried out by Light Microscope and several mechanical properties tests were analysed in their as cast condition and after the solution heat treatment and aging process. The results showed that the mechanical properties of aluminium composite applied with T6 treatment were increased compared to unheat treated AC4B /nano alumina composite caused by the precipitation hardening.
