The flow characteristic of mud slurries and nata de coco fiber suspension in spiral pipe

Abstract

Experiments for drag reduction on the hydraulic transport of a solid have been carried out by nata de coco fiber solution and mud slurries. It is clear that the pressure drop of the case of fiber solution and mud slurries decrease in the low mean velocity range in ratio pitch per diameter 7. The friction coefficient of mud slurries has been obtained through the measurement of the mass flow rate and the experimental data of pressure drop of the circular and spiral pipe has been correlated with the experiment formula. Through some formulas, to determine the research value, the higher of drag reduction value by the spiral pipe. Drag reduction value of nata de coco is 34.68% and 25% for slurry. Mechanical degradation of slurry has good stability as long as it is circulated while the nata de coco suspension just ability until 8 hour in piping circulation.
