Abstract
Traffic problems are one part of the main tasks of Indonesian Nation Police, also known asPolri, especially the traffic police. Furthermore, the development of the strategicenvironment—in the form of the rapid growth of the number of motorized vehicles with varioustypes in recent years followed by an increase of population—has resulted in various problemsof security, safety, public order and the smoothness on highways. Such problems areincreasingly causing various problems in the field of traffic, both in the form of trafficcongestion and traffic accidents. In response to these problems as well as to build disciplineand traffic compliance from road users, Traffic Directorate of Jakarta Metropolitan PoliceRegion (Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya) implements a law enforcement system for traffic violatorsthrough ETLE (Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement) system. This paper aims to find out theapplication of E-TLE system in suppressing the number of traffic accidents; factors affectingthe effectiveness of the application of E-TLE system in reducing the number of traffic accidents;and the optimal efforts to implement E-TLE in providing sustainable driving safety and securityservices, the author employs the qualitative approach using the case study method. The sourcesof information are traffic officers of Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya. Data are obtained throughinterviews. The results of the study reveal that E-TLE system has succeeded in reducing thelevel of traffic violations but has not been able to reduce traffic accidents.
