Abstract

The effects of solution treatment on mechanical properties and microstructure of beta Ti-6Mo-6Nb-8Sn alloy were investigated. The Ti-6Mo-6Nb-8Sn alloy was fabricated by the vacuum arc re-melting furnace. The obtain ingots were homogenized at 1,100 °C for 7 hours and hot rolled at 1100 °C to 4 mm thick, then solution treated at various temperatures of 900, 1,000, 1,100 °C and soaking times of 45, 60, 75 minutes followed by water quenching. Ti-6Mo-6Nb-8Sn had full equiaxed microstructure after solution treated. The β phase was observed in all solution treated conditions. The elastic modulus was lower than that of commercially available Ti-6Al-4V alloy.
