Abstract

The importance of microeconomic aspects in the analysis of the fertility of couples is reviewed, with particular reference to the concept of children as consumer goods. The author suggests that there is a positive correlation between income and fertility in developing countries. The focus of the study is on an interpretation of the core English-language published literature on this topic.
