Abstract

The completion of double track system from Jakarta to Surabaya (734 km) creates the opportunities of freight rail to be the main mode of freight transport in North Java Coast corridor. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the freight rail performance by employing time performance indicator, and supported by user perception. Primary survey is conducted to estimate the time performance of handling system in Sungai Lagoa Station (Jakarta) and Kalimas Station (Surabaya). In addition, user perception survey is conducted to rate the system performance. The results show that the container needs total shipment time as ± 93 hours with the average running speed of the train as 47.82 km/hour. 73% of such total time is spent in the stations. The improvement should be focused on the stationrelated activities though the users feel satisfied with the system, together with the link-related ones to reduce the obstructions throughout the corridor.
