Abstract

Supernumerary nostrils are an extremely rare congenital. The purpose of this study is to prepare a standardized procedure for repairing supernumerary nostrils, and to discuss the probable psychological effect on the patient. Fistulectomy and cartilage graft from the ear were performed to reconstruct the accessory nostril. Surgery was performed at a young age to prevent further disfiguration and to optimize psychological well-being. The result of this study is the wound showed good healing progress over the lateral side of the nose. Although the symmetry between the two nostrils was not ideal, it was acceptable. The repair aims to create a functioning and normal-appearing nose with minimal deformity. The extra nostril can be excised during fistulectomy. The patient can also be offered social skill training to improve their self-esteem and family acceptance and support are important in the rehabilitation of children with facial disfigurations.
