Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The social humanism dimension has become an interesting area of exploration due to its comprehensive and holistic approach to ICT-related programs. Social humanists believe that the aspects of real equality of opportunity, contractual utilitarianism, and egalitarianism need to be implemented in the broader society through adequate policy-planning and application of technology. The exploration focused on the intertwined relationship between a social humanist statement and the information society’s ICT development goal. Therefore, this study explored the implementation of three social humanism dimensions in three Indonesian villages based on their success story in ICT development. Data were obtained from local inhabitants of these villages and their leaders, using Brian Ellis’s theory and in-depth interviews. The selective coding method was conducted into the thematic analysis of the social humanism dimension based on the three types of villages. The result showed that the agreement among inhabitants was essential, leading the villages to develop efficient and effective ICT programs. This study also found that the social contractual of utilitarianism, social contractual of egalitarianism, and real opportunity to participate played an essential role in family welfare’s improvement. Besides, the social humanism dimension on ICT policy, planning, and program implementation enhanced local economic growth, community living standards, and strengthened kinship and brotherhood among villagers.
