Size Reduction of Substrate Integrated Waveguide Cavity Backed U-Slot Antenna

Abstract

This paper presents a planar substrate integrated waveguide with cavity backed U-slot antenna (SIW CBUSA) to reduce antenna size. The size reduction is obtained by extending the slot length dimension at the ground plane while keeping the antenna dimensioning. By putting proper position of the slot we optimize antenna size reduction. The antenna size reduction of 60% is then can be achieved from the conventional SIW CBSA. The proposed antenna was manufactured and tested, obtaining operating frequency (f0) 2.44 GHz with fractional bandwidth of 1.25% at VSWR < 2.
