Abstract

Ice slurry can be used for fish cooling media with uniform cooling quality, relatively, because its ice particles do not damage fish, and its cooling temperatures can be lower than freezing temperature of pure water. This allows fishermen to maintain the freshness of the fish, or slower down the fish decaying while on the boat. This study aims to design the implementation of ice slurry generator on 25 GT fishing boats, including the layout for the ice slurry generator and analyzing the economic aspects. The 25 GT fishing boat needs 465 kg/day ice slurry, with total 5 days on the sea. The boat has 16.50 m long, 4.47 m wide, and 1.69 m high with a displacement of 50, 104 tonnes, and also has 2 fish hatches which will be filled with fish that will be cooled by ice slurry. The result of this research is a layout drawing of the ice slurry generator on a fishing boat, and the the economic analysis. From the results of the investment analysis, it is found that the 25 GT fishing boat with an ice slurry generator can reach the break even point on the 88th trip or for 2 years and 6 months from the start of the investment. The net present value with 12% interest earned is around USD 130,000, which means the investment is feasible (NPV> 0). The IRR value is 35.58%, which means that the investment is feasible because it is greater than the loan interest (12%).
