Abstract

Playing the role as a parent means having an important role in parenting. However, taking care of children can be one of the factors causing parents to experience stress. This condition can be aggravated when parents have children with special needs. Low levels of resilience can be one of the factors that causes older people to experience high levels of stress. This study aims to determine the resilience and its relationship with stress levels of parents who have children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This research method uses correlative analytic design with cross sectional approach. The subjects of this study were 30 students' parents at the Sekolah Mandiga Jakarta Selatan and the study was carried out using the total sampling method. The research measuring instrument used was the Brief Resilience Scale for resilience variables, and the Parental Stress Scale for variable stress levels of parents. The data analysis used was univariate and bivariate analysis using the gamma correlation test. The gamma correlation test is used to see the relationship and the level of strength of the relationship between the two variables. This study concludes that there is a strong relationship between resilience and stress levels in parents who have children with Autism Spectrum Disorder at Sekolah Mandiga South Jakarta. The correlation coefficient obtained is -0.727, so the relationship is strong and negative. Promoting mental health for parents needs to be done routinely to maintain mental health status, increase resilience, and prevent stress among parents.
