Abstract
Congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN) is a benign proliferation of melanocytes that appears at birth or within weeks of life. The condition occurs in 1% - 2% of newborns, with a 2% - 42% and 6% - 14% risk of transforming into malignancy or developing into multiple myeloma. The occurrence of CMN involving the auricular area is uncommon. Although excision of the nevus is the treatment of choice, this procedure is challenging. A wide area of CMN requires extensive excision coupled with a reconstructive procedure. In this article, we present a case of giant CMN in a 6-year-old female with giant pigmented nevi appearing after birth in all parts of her body, particularly the right facial, auricular, post auricular, mastoid, and neck areas. The diagnosis was reached based on the results of a biopsy revealing the presence of melanocytic nevus. Wide excision of the nevus at the right auricular with cartilage exposure was performed and a split-thickness skin graft was used for the reconstruction of the auricle. Postoperative follow-up showed a good outcome.
