Prospek Penelitian dan Pengajaran Sastra Indonesia di Perguruan Tinggi: Peluang dan Tantangan di Masa Kini

Indonesian Study Program at state universities in Indonesia is a mandatory study program. Indubitably, it affirms the importance of teaching literature and Indonesia language to the younger generation (students) throughout Indonesia. Such conditions centainly lead us, both as managers of Indonesian study programs and lecturers of literature and Indonesian language, to continue to realize how strategic our role in university is. Subsequently, literary and Indonesian language teaching should also be based on the results of studies that we condust as researcers. Thus,our roles and funtions in Indonesian Study Programs continue to face opportunities and challenges in terms of teaching, researching, and transferring literary and linguistic knowledge to students. This paper discusses the prospect of Indonesia literary research that can be potentially used in the process of teaching Indonesian literature to students in higher education in Indonesia. There are some characteristics of Indonesia study programs that we need to take into account based on their type of tertiary educational funtions: ones that are related to universities, namely courses that develop scientific aspects (e.g. UI, UGM, Unpad, Undip, Undayana) and those that develop aspects of teaching as well as scholarship (e.g. UNJ, UNY). Thus, the characteristics of study programs in each university or teaching college consequently will produce different competence of graduates. That, of course, requires a mapping, evaluation, and direction of Indonesia study programs’ development in the future. Therefore, strategic plans are needed that can anticiapate current opportunities and challenges to future opportunities and challenges.
