Abstract

The development of lung transplantation centers in a developing country like Indonesia is challenging. Increased morbidity and mortality of end stage pulmonary disease necessitates the availability of lung transplant facilities. Prior the programmes, an effective donation system should be developed to ensure the availability of organ donors. We propose an effective organ donation system for Indonesia, especially for lung transplantation. In building the National organ donation system, the beliefs of diverse cultures and religions should be considered. Credible human sources is the key to succeed in the development of an effective organ donation system.
