A novel heterogeneous organobase catalyst of Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 -guanidine was prepared in three stages. First, Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticle was obtained by co-precipitation method using seaweed Sargassum Sp. as natural reductant. Fe 3 O 4 was then coated by SiO 2 using TEOS as silica source, resulting Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 . Finally, Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 -Guanidine was obtained by modifying Fe 3 O 4 /SiO 2 with guanidine in the suitable reaction condition. This organobase catalyst was characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), and Particle Size Analyzer (PSA). The material was then used as a highly active catalyst in aldol condensation reaction between acetophenone and cinnamaldehyde to produce 1,5-diphenylpenta-2,4-dien-1-one. The structure elucidation of the organic product was confirmed by UV-Vis, FTIR, and LC-MS.
