Abstract

The development of the digital world is now penetrated into the world of politics. The use of digital media itself in the development of politics today provides a variety of media effects in the political world in society. The nature of the direct interaction of society in it a benchmark in the political knowledge of society in general. Then came the big question For this research will digital media contribute to strengthening democracy through increasing political knowledge in general or during election campaigns. The development of digital media is able to mobilize the community to apply democratically based on the content of their consumed media. Moreover in the case of elections of DKI 2017 become a hot topic debated in Digital media. This paper would like to express how influential the consumption of political news in social media in Indonesian society, especially the youth, to his political knowledge in the real world.Tulisan uses quantitative methods with the aim to calculate the level of relationship between social media with political knowledge.The research uses cross-sectional survey method because it only wants to review the people's knowledge in the DKI Jakarta 2017 Election. The survey was conducted by usingsamples from the Graduate student of Communication Studies University of Indonesia. The number of samples taken as many as 40 people from the Graduate Program Communication Science University of Indonesia. This study at least examine the correlation between the use of digital media on political knowledge in the case of elections DKI 2017. From this study found the result that the consumption of social media among students Graduate Studies Communication University of Indonesia is high. In addition, the pattern of relationship between the two variables is the variable of news consumption in social media with the variable of political knowledge of society has a positive significance. This study observes that the high pattern of consumption of political news in social media hence high poiltik knowledge also related to issues of elections DKI 2017.
