Abstract

Rainfall rate attributed with high variability and fluctuations in the tropics, yet the rainfall rate data available from the rainfall monitoring station is a point data. The interpolation method, thus, is required to explain the distributions of area rainfall rate. The area Rainfall rate is illustrated from the data in 32 rain stations in Kebumen during the period 1986 - 2015 using the Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW), Ordinary Kriging, Spline, and Natural Neighbor to find the best method to map the spatial rainfall rate pattern of the annual average, monsoon average, and the monthly maximum average of rainfall rate in Kebumen. The results obtained from this study indicate that the method of Ordinary Kriging is the best method to describe the distribution of annual average rainfall rate and monthly maximum average of rainfall rate, while the IDW method is the best method to describe the distribution of average monsoon season rainfall rate in the Kebumen district.
