Abstract
This paper explores Jacques Tati's film "Playtime"in the context of urban cinematic aesthetics, modernism, Situationist International, and sustainability. Through analysing the film's depiction of the modern city, visual style, and underlying themes, we investigate how "Playtime"reflects and critiques urban modernism while addressing sustainability in contemporary urban contexts. By examining Tati's use of wide-angle shots and attention to detail, we explore the bustling urban environment. We delve into the influence of Situationist International, connecting the film's satirical representation of consumerism with the call for reclaiming public space and fostering genuine social interactions. Additionally, we discuss "Playtime's"concerns related to sustainability within urban modernism. This study demonstrates how the film amalgamates urban aesthetics, modernist critique, Situationist influences, and sustainability, shedding light on creating human-centric cities amidst rapid urbanization and ecological concerns.
