Physical activity changes impact the nutritional status of the elderly: A longitudinal study

Abstract

This study to determine the impact of physical activity on the nutritional status of elderly people. This longitudinal study used 2007 pre erlderly aged 55-59 years (808 subjects) and followed for 7 years untuil 2014. Data physical activity were assessed to evaluate changes in nutritional status as body mass index (BMI). The factors associated with nutritional status are reported in this study. For 7 years, no physical activity changes were reported (60,8%). Physical activity changes were only reported by a few subjects (16,1%), and improved from no physical activity to periods of < 30 min or ≥ 30 min. BMI increased as physical activity decreased, in terms of both types and duration. Regular physical activity is an important factor to enhance the quality of life for elderly people.
