Abstract

Introduction: Prevention of cervical cancer can be done by early detection and avoiding risk factors. One of the easy and inexpensive early detection of cancer is the IVA (Visual Acetatic Acid) examination method. The participation of women of childbearing age in IVA examinations is due to perceived of vulnerability, perceived of seriousness, perceived of, benefits, perceived of barriers and cues to action to carry out these examinations. Objective: This study aims to determine the perceptions of women of childbearing age towards early detection of cervical cancer by the IVA examination method at the Cinere Health Center. Method: The design of this research study is qualitative using the theory approach of the Health Belief Model. There were 15 informants in the study consisting of 12 women of childbearing age who came to the Cinere Health Center, divided into 2 groups, namely 1 group that carried out IVA examinations and a group that did not carry out IVA examinations. Triangulation of resources by 2 puskesmas health workers and 1 PKTP officer. Result: Women of childbearing age who have good knowledge about cervical cancer and IVA examinations tend to do IVA examinations. Most women of childbearing age say that the VIA examination is useful for early detection of cervical cancer, but the perception that they are healthy, having healthy sexual relations and fear of procedures and IVA examination results are obstacles to early detection. The biggest encouragement for carrying out VIA examinations is self-awareness, husband's encouragement and information from health workers Conclusion: Women of childbearing age who had an IVA examination and those who did not have an IVA examination had different knowledge, perceived vulnerabilities and perceived seriousness. It is believed that the perceived barriers in the group that did not carry out the IVA examination were greater than the perceived benefits. This cannot be separated from the knowledge that women of childbearing age acquire. Encouragement from family and health workers influences more than social media to carry out VIA examinations.
