Abstract

The bit error rate (BER) performance of trellis coded M-ary PSK (TC MPSK) in the presence of undesired multiple co-channel interference (CCI) and fading is investaged. The fading statistic for desired signal is Rician or Nakagami fading and the undesired interference signals are characteristic by Rayleigh fading. We assume all the interferers are unmodulated because most of errors are produced by Rayleigh fading itself rather than the modulating sequence, and thus, it can be treated as complex Gaussian noise and all the interferers have the same power. We use the error property and error bound based on transfer functions where the number of error states equals to the number of trellis states to evaluate the BER performance. It is shown that BER performance of TC 8PSK is improved as increasing either the power of desired signal or the value of signal to interference ratio (SIR).
