Background Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) is a sarcoma that has poor prognosis due to its unresponsive to chemotherapy, Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) is involved in mitogenic signal transduction and cell proliferation pathway. High expression of EGFR in other tumor has been used to give antiEGFR therapy. This study was done to analyze expression of EGFR in high grade MPNST and low grade MPNST, as well as analyzing the correlation between EGFR with histopathological grading in MPNST. Methods Study design was cross sectional, restrospective and descriptive. Sample consist of 20 low grade MPNST and 20 high grade MPNST which were diagnosed in period between 2007-2015 in Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. Sample was stained with immunohistochemistry using monoclonal antibody of EGFR and scored accordingly by percentage of positive cells which has brown colour in membranous and or cytoplasm in 500 cells/5 HPF: 0 (no staining), 1 (stained in 30%). The differences of EGFR expression on MPNST was analyzed by chi-square. Results Expression of EGFR on high grade MPNST was higher significantly as compared to low grade MPNST (p=0.000). Conclusion High expression of EGFR maybe used as a base to give anti-EGFR therapy in high grade MPNST.
