Abstract
The existence of inclusive schools provides opportunities for students with disabilities to get formal education like other normal children. Support from various parties is needed so that they can participate in the learning process and even reach both academic and nonacademic achievements. This is a descriptive qualitative research and aims to describe social support for students with special needs at SMP Negeri 226 Jakarta. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with two outstanding students with disabilities, parents and siblings, classmates, and teachers. The data was deepened by making observations, literature studies, and documentation studies. The data were analyzed in stages, through the process of data organizing, categorizing, and interpreting and drawing conclusions. The results of this study
indicate that social support from schools (teachers and classmates) plays a major role in the nonacademic achievement
of students with disabilities. In addition, family support also plays a very crucial role. The social support received by
students with disabilities are in form of emotional, instrumental, appreciative, and informational support. The conclusion
of this study is that cooperation between school and families of students with disabilities is very necessary to support their
academic education in school and to reach achievements in their special abilities. Recommendations are aimed to the
government and schools to create more inclusive environment and to increase the social support for students with
disabilities having special achievement.
