Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out how the campaign strategy of Ahok-Djarot's approach on people's campaign in the 2017 Election of DKI Jakarta Governor. As it is such a new approach political approach in Indonesia, grassroots fundraising conducted by Ahok-Djarot has been successfully carried out, both in terms of the number of the raised fund and the participation level of community. This qualitative research uses fundraising strategies and tactics as described by Jennifer A. Steen. The research primarily concludesAhok-Djarothas made a breakthrough in fundraising activityin political history of Indonesian through appropriate strategies and tactics. However, the huge success is part of the profile of supported candidates. Thus, this research aimsat complementing the campaign fundraising strategy which has not yet been a common practice in Indonesia.
