Abstract

Ministry of Industry enacted policies of mandatory Indonesian National Standard (SNI) in concrete steel products since September 2008. The concrete steel product is one of the finished product in the structure of steel industry and is widely used for infrastructure or other building construction. This study analyzes the impact of the Mandatory SNI policy against imports and production in concrete steel products using econometric model analysis, Ordinary Least Square (OLS) with two equation formulas, imports and production model. On the import equation, explanatory variables were taken into model are the real Gross Domestic Produc (GDP), real exchange rate and dummy variables of mandatory SNI. On the production equation, explanatory variables were taken into model are the value of capital (utility), imports, real GDP, and dummy variables of mandatory SNI. The estimation on monthly time series data from 2002 until 2011 showed that the policy of mandatory SNI had negative impact on the imports of concrete steel and positive impact on the domestic production of concrete steel.
