Abstract

Biodiesel, an alternative energy that normally produced from plant oil and animal fatty.Biodiesel is an renewable energy, biodegradable, environment friendly and nontoxic fuel. The objectives of this research is to use rice bran as raw material, rice bran done by extraction process using n-hexane to get the rice bran oil. The method use to produced biodiesel is the acid transesterification followed by base transesterification with methanol in the presence of catalyst. The catalyst used in this research is homogenous catalyst such as H2SO4 and heterogonous catalyst such as natural zeolite from Bayah Banten. The preparation of biodiesel was done by varying the temperature in base transesterification process 50°C, 60°C dan 70°C. The zeolite prepared by impregnation process in various concentration KOH/zeolite (25 gr KOH in 100 ml distilled water, 37.5 gr KOH in 100 ml distilled water and 50 gr KOH in 100 ml distilled water). The reaction time was 60 minute with the concentration of catalyst is 2%. The biodiesel properties were comparable to Indonesian National Standard (SNI) with the best result in the temperature variations of 60°C
