In this experiment, the Fly Ash/TiO2 composite was produced using TiO2 P25, fly ash from PT Pupuk Kaltim, and a cationic surfactant, Hexadecyltrimethylamonium Bromide (HTAB). The catalyst was characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy equipped with Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (SEM-EDX) and tested for ammonia degradation at photoreactor. The optimum mass ratio of fly ash and TiO2 was 2:1 (1g/250mL liquid waste), allowing reduction of aqueous ammonia concentration up to 79% for 180 minutes of reaction. Optimum pH for ammonia degradation is 11. The result of this experiment showed that modified fly ash can be used as liquid ammonia waste treatment. The results also showed that the reaction kinetics for ammonia degradation using fly ash/TiO2 catalyst follows Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetics.
