Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis is still a serious health problem in the world, especially in developing countries. Treatment of tuberculosis with a long period of time requires access to health services that are easily accessible to patients. Especially in developing countries, digital health has the potential to offer a cost-effective solution to overcome financial, social, time and distance challenges. Objective: This study aimed to identify digital health applications that can be used to improve TB patient care in developing countries and other developing countries that have implemented research related to digital health. Methods: The protocol followed for this scoping review aligns with a five-step framework outlined by Arksey and O’Malley. The inclusion criteria in this study are research articles, published in 2016 to 2022, full text, in English, and discusses the use of digital health application to improve success treatment for tuberculosis patients in developing countries. Results: 7 articles which fit the inclusion criteria claimed that digital health application can become a solution in patient care, especially for those country with inadequate health service resources. 2 types of digital health application that can be used as an effort to improve the success of tuberculosis treatment in developing countries, namely short message service (SMS) and video observed therapy (VOT). Conclusion: The use of digital health application can improve the communication of health workers and patients, provide convenience for patients to access cost effective health facilities optimally, and can improve patient compliance to carry out treatment completely.
