Abstract

Alopecia areata totalis is the severe type of non-scarring hair loss on the scalp. The etiology is still not fully elucidated. Multiple treatment modalities have been investigated; however, curative treatments have not yet been identified. Here we report the case of a patient with alopecia areata totalis who received combination treatment with topical therapy (intra-lesion and scalp solutioncorticosteroids), low-level laser therapy, and oral immunotherapy (isoprinosine and antiviral valacyclovir) and achieved excellent therapeutic outcomes.
