Oral health knowledge, denture status, and oral health related quality of life of the elderly

Abstract

The knowledge level about oral health and denture status are factor that affects elderly people's quality of life. Indonesia needs an instrument to measure/analyze the correlation between oral health knowledge as well as denture status and quality of life. The research objective of this study is to describe the oralh health knowledge, denture status and oral health related quality of life of the erlerly. 101 elderly people were analyzed using data recording, intraoral examination, and an interview questionnaire for oral health knowledge and quality of life. In rural areas, the elderly have less knowledge of oral health, and thus the denture demand is lower in rural areas than in urban areas. OHI-S and economic levels are the main factors that associated with the quality of life of the elderly.
