Abstract
Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common non-communicable disease found in Indonesia in 2020. On the other hand, obesity is also a health problem that is interrelated with the risk of various cancers, one of which is breast cancer. Obesity is experienced by 13% of the world's adult population and 18% of the population of children and adolescents aged 5-19 years in 2016. Obesity is an important risk factor for morbidity and mortality of non-communicable diseases and diseases related to sedentary lifestyle due to lack of physical activity. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of obesity as a risk factor for breast cancer in women. Method: This study is a literature study using online database through Pubmed. The results of a literature search obtained 10 articles published between 2012 – 2022. Result: The results of several studies using a case-control study design show that there is a statistically significant relationship between obesity and the incidence of breast cancer. Studies in Asian, American and Australian countries that differ racially and economically show this relationship. As a preventable risk factor for breast cancer, the focus on obesity is one of the factors preventing breast cancer in women. Conclusion: Obesity is a risk factor for breast cancer in women and adopting a healthy lifestyle, exercising regularly, increasing physical activity and carrying out routine health checks can reduce the risk of obesity which in turn can reduce the risk of disease, including breast cancer.
