Abstract

Nickel hydroxide nanoparticles [Ni(OH)2-NPs] synthesized by a complexation-precipitation method under hydrothermal conditions were employed as a probe in immunochromatographic strip tests for the selective detection of melamine. The characterization of Ni(OH)2-NPs and their conjugation to anti-melamine antibody (anti-MEL) were performed using a UV- visible spectrophotometer, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and TEM. On the basis of the green line intensity, the strip test can selectively detect melamine at a minimum concentration of 25 ppm. Our results suggest that this system is promising for the quantitative detection of melamine.
