Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in critically ill settings contributes to high mortality, especially with respiratory and renal involvement or in neurological or cardiac complication. We present a case of a 20-year-old critically ill female patient with SLE. The nutritional status of the patient was normoweight. The patient received medical nutrition therapy following the nutritional guidelines for critically ill patients and micronutrient vitamin D supplementation. She was treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) for 10 days. After discharge from the ICU, she could breathe spontaneously with enteral nutrition. Medical nutrition therapy supports recovery, decreases disease activity, and maintains nutritional status.
