Abstract

The mechanical properties and pitting corrosion resistance of Zr-Mo-Al-Ti-(x)Y in simulated human body fluids was investigated. The amount of Yttrium added into Zr alloys was 2, 3, and 4 wt%.From the Vickers hardness test, the hardness value was increased by the increasing of Yttrium content. In other hand, the pitting corrosion behaviour of Zr alloys was carried out by cyclic polarization in Ringer’s Lactate Solution at room temperature. The study found out that the pitting resistance reached its optimum value by the addition of 3 wt% of Y.
