Abstract

Fibrous dysplasia is frequently managed with open maxillectomy, and the technique employed depends on the location of the lesion. Mid-facial reconstruction after maxillectomy is a complicated and difficult process. Clinicians require expertise and must exercise caution when closing the defect, taking into consideration both aesthetics and function. Post-maxillectomy reconstruction using titanium alloplastic material has various advantages. To present a case of maxillary fibrous dysplasia treated with suprastructure maxillectomy followed by reconstruction to close the defect. Reconstruction uses titanium mesh plates and muscle slings, with the facial contour and tissues lost during the suprastructure maxillectomy taken into consideration. Various types of maxillectomy and post-maxillectomy defects have been classified with the aim of facilitating reconstruction and guiding the clinician through the process. The reconstruction of suprastructure maxillectomy using a titanium mesh plate and muscle sling is effective and produces good results in function and aesthetics.
