Abstract

Introduction: This case report described the management of iatrogenic pulp exposure with Biodentine as direct pulp capping material. Case report: A 19-year-old female patient complained about discomfort associated with thermal stimulation on the permanent mandibular left first molar. Pulp sensitivity was confirmed by thermal pulp vitality tests. The radiograph revealed a deep caries lesion close to the pulp and a lack of periapical radiolucency and periodontal ligament widening. Based on the examinations, the treatment plan was to cover the left dentine with pulp capping material indirectly, but iatrogenic pulp exposures occurred. Clinical procedures were taken consisted of caries removal, bleeding control, the Biodentine application as a direct pulp capping material, and resin composite application as the overlying restoration. Biodentine was the choice of treatment because of its high biocompatibility and bioactivity that can encourage protective hard formation and healing on the site of injury. Conclusion: Clinical success for six months follow-up was confirmed by sensitivity over vitality test and lack of radiographic pathological findings.
