Maintaining quality of hospital medical services during the COVID-19 pandemic era

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced hospitals to maintain health services quality. This is important considering the high demand for health services during this pandemic era. The aim of the study is to review the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on health services and the implementation of strategies to maintain health services quality. This literature review study searched from 5 databases. The inclusion criteria were studies about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and alternative solutions to maintain the quality of health care services. The articles that not assessed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and published before 2020 were excluded. A total of 5 from 47 articles found were selected. Most studies mention a decrease in patient visits due to COVID-19 pandemic, an increase in emergency calls, and a postponement of the elective patients. Meanwhile, almost all studies recommend telemedicine and modification of hospital guidelines as the solution for maintaining health services during pandemic. A decrease in patient visits, increase in emergency services, and postponement elective patients impacts the COVID-19 pandemic on health services in hospitals. Telemedicine and modification of hospital guidelines are strategies applied to maintain the quality of health services during pandemic.
