Abstract
Sentiment politics was exploited massively by Islamic Populism in attacking President Joko Widodo. Issues used
such as Jokowi’s anti-Islam, lackeys-foreigners, pro-PKI, discriminatory scholars, and so on are expected to
create hatred for President Jokowi. This study aims to see Jokowi’s views on the politics of these sentiments
and how he responded. The research method used is qualitative-descriptive. The results of the study found that
President Jokowi personally was not psychologically disturbed by the politics of the sentiment, but he viewed it
as an issue. Thus he needed to respond because political sentiments had negative implications for the harmony
of life as a nation and state. Jokowi is more focused on using the “RASA” political communication approach in
responding to political sentiments, which according to him, is also a game of taste. The political communication
of taste is based on personal power, which includes friendly, polite, and populist.
