Abstract
Indonesia faces a serious problem with the high number of death caused by traffic accidents. All this time, human error or human negligence is considered as the cause of traffic accidents. This study aims to analyze the factors of causes and the dynamics of traffic accidents from drivers’ cognitive factors. Four-wheel vehicle drivers and motorcyclists who were the perpetrators of traffic accidents were interviewed. The result of this study shows that negligence in recognizing situations as well as in deciding while driving becomes dominant factors in human error. The implication of this study is to re-evaluate the policy of driving license requirements, and the socialization program about safety on the road.
