Abstract

Secretory carcinoma is an exceptionally rare typeof invasive breast cancer in the special subtype classification of World Health Organization 2012. It occurs in <0.15% of all breast cancers and has a distinct histomorphology, which is characterized by the presence of intracellular and extracellular eosinophilic secretory materials. It generally shows triple negativity for estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and human epidermal growth factor 2and shows strong reactivity for S-100 protein. We report the case of a 54-year-old woman with invasive breast carcinoma. The histomorphology mimicked that of secretory carcinoma, with unusual immunohistochemical findings typical of secretory carcinoma. However, secretory carcinoma is associated with a characteristic translocation that creates ETV6-NTRK3 gene fusion, which was not observed in this case. Despite the considerable resemblance with secretory carcinoma, this case was ultimately diagnosed as invasive breast carcinoma of no special type.
