Infrared spectroscopy and X ray diffraction study on the morphological variations of carbonate and phosphate compounds in giant prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) skeletons during its moulting period

Abstract

The quantitative and morphological variations of carbonate and phosphate compounds in giant prawn skeletons during the moulting period were discussed. It was found that the phosphate bands in giant prawn skeletons were attributed to a mixture of amorphous and microcrystal phases. The analysis suggested that calcium carbonate experience partial conversion from the amorphous to the crystal phase toward the end of moulting cycle.
