Abstract
Rapid technological improvement has influenced development of Islamic charities, including waqf (Islamic endowment). In Indonesia, several waqf institutions have provided online platforms for fundraising, and this is important for the millennial generation, who tend to use technology frequently. Nevertheless, so far, collection of cash waqf has been relatively small in Indonesia. Therefore, using the theory of planned behavior (TPB) approach, this research examined factors that significantly affected Indonesian Muslim millennials’ intentions to donate through online forms of waqf. Research findings were based on 418 samples from Muslim millennials residing in six large cities in Indonesia (Jabodetabek, Bandung, Surabaya, Makassar, Medan, and Balikpapan). Survey data were analyzed using structural equation modeling, which showed that all determinants of attitude had significant effect. Additionally, all TPB variables (attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavior control) were found to be significantly and positively influence the intention to do online waqf giving among Muslim millennials in Indonesia. The study’s implications enrich academic literature and provide a useful source of information for related parties, such as waqf institutions, in implementing effective strategies to promote online waqf and to strengthen the system of cash waqf collection, for which this analysis could be used as a guideline to improve planning.
