N2 - The Government of Indonesia is trying to accelerate infrastructure projects to increase national economic growth. One of the infrastructure projects is the Trans Sumatera Toll Road (TSTR), built spans across Sumatera Island from the north to the southern part of the island, about 2,704 km. The developed connectivity is expected to increase regional economic growth and competitiveness on the island of Sumatera. This paper aims to identify the leading economic sectors in the region that the TSTR will pass by considering the northern part of Sumatera as the focus of the study. The location quotient (LQ) method was used to determine the leading economic sector in the province in the northern part of Sumatera by using the gross regional domestic product (GRDP). This study shows that regencies and cities in the Provinces of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam and North Sumatera have the potential to contribute to regional economic growth, with the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors in both provinces as the leading sectors. With the existence of TSTR, it is expected to be able to increase the regional economy by accelerating the mobility of goods from these leading sectors.
