Abstract

One of the therapies that can be used to treat high cholesterol levels is by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors on biosynthesis cholesterol. Garcinia species are known can decrease cholesterol level. This research aims to test the inhibitory activity of the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase on water extract of Garcinia xanthochymus by HMG-CoA reductase Assay Kit, Sigma Aldrich, determination of the levels of flavonoids and phenols, preparations of the herb tea simplicia already characterized and test the hedonist. The water extract of 5 minutes has the highest percent inhibition activity of HMG-CoA reductase is 46.45%±4.1140. Simplicia characterization of drying shrinkage accorded the requirements of <10%, levels of water soluble consentration 42.77%±0.0255, levels of ethanol soluble concentration 45.52%±0.0036, total ash content 10.77%±0.0021, and acid insoluble ash content of 4.42%±0.002. The determination of the levels of total flavonoid extract highest was 5 minutes 24.213 mgQE/gr of extract. The determination of the levels of total phenolic extract highest is 15 minutes 12.171 mgGAE/gr of extract. Hedonist test of two formulatuon, on the color, scent, and flavors parameter, the existence of significant differences in test favorite flavor. Water extract of Garcinia xanthochymus mesocarp has no significant HMG-CoA reductase inhibition activity.
