Abstract

The wettability of various polycrystalline and single crystal nickel-base superalloys by a composite interlayer has been examined dynamically, using hot-stage light microscopy on sessile drop specimens (supplemented by post-spreading characterization), in order to explore the origins of differences in wettability. In this paper, the roles of both substrate-oxide composition and substrate microstructure in wettability are discussed.
